First-time Setup

This guide follows the current portal flow from sign-in to the first backup.

1. Sign in

Open portal.m365suite.com and choose Sign in with Microsoft 365.

Signing in identifies you to M365Suite. It does not automatically grant tenant access. A user is a guest until an M365Suite admin invites or promotes them, except when that user completes the verified tenant consent or supported BYOA setup flow.

2. Connect the tenant

An M365Suite admin opens Settings & Access → Connection and completes one of these paths:

  • Grant Admin Consent for the shared M365Suite app
  • Custom App Registration for an entitled BYOA tenant

See Granting Admin Consent or Bring Your Own Application before approving permissions.

3. Discover and classify sites

Open Estate Explorer and run discovery when the portal asks you to do so. An admin with an empty cache may see discovery start automatically.

Discovery and classification run in the background. The portal shows separate progress for each stage. A completed site list can be used before every classification field is available, but type and hub information should be considered incomplete until classification finishes.

4. Create a first backup

  1. Open Estate Explorer.
  2. Select one or more sites.
  3. Choose the backup action.
  4. Wait for the progress banner and completion toast.
  5. Open Recovery Center and select the site to view its version history.

Backups are stored per site. A backup run across multiple sites creates separate site versions rather than one tenant-wide snapshot.

5. Configure recurring protection

Tenant admins can open Settings & Access → Backups to configure a schedule, retention, target scope, and backup-email preference.

The controls offered by the portal depend on the current plan. For example, the Free plan allows weekly scheduling and retains up to three versions per site, while custom cadence is an Enterprise feature.
